The pride of Evansville, IN LST 325 is the only Navy monument capable of independent movement. LST 325 is a faithful restoration of a working "workhorse of the sea" that carried US soldiers and Marines to war during WWII and Korea. The Memorial is also a tribute to the city's contribution to the war effort which saw 167 LSTs and 34 other ships of various types produced at the local shipyards making Evansville the highest producing of all the inland shipyards.

Author Linda E Minton

From the back of the book

My interest in WWII began when I discovered my deceased uncle had received a Purple Heart during his military service.  No one in the family knew the circumstances for this honor.  It was this event that sparked an interest in my family’s history as well as the accounts of nearly seventy WWII veterans.

It’s important to know what WWII veterans endured, suffered, and survived.  Read their heartfelt stories; thank them whenever possible.  They are incredible, humble men and women.

-Linda E. Minton

“My admiration for those veterans who trained and guided me was unbounded.  I will always salute, remember, and tell the stories of how much their service meant to me, my family, and my country.”

-Richard G. Lugar

United States Senator (Ret.)
